From Arctic Amber To The Digital Age – How peep Gave One Of The Sea’s Most Secretive Trading Houses A Voice, A Presence and A Gothic Marketing Story
There are companies that advertise, and then there are companies that exist in whispers – passed between collectors, navigators, and those who have always known that the most extraordinary things come from the coldest waters. The Brotherhood of the Northern Passage is the latter. A maritime trading house dealing in Baltic amber, Arctic salvage, and the rare biological harvest of deep northern seas, their cargo has moved silently between ports for generations. What they had never done – until now – was speak.

That is the exact reason they approached peep. Not mass market exposure. Not viral reach. The right people, finding them in the right way – through content so rich in history, atmosphere and authority that it functions less like marketing and more like a discovery.
“ It is only the truly diverse and niche companies - the ones who have a genuine story buried in their work - that reach out to peep to deliver something original ”

Professional Product Photography For Website
No off-the-shelf stock. No studio clichés, but instead, thought provoking maritime history with a twist in the story most people have forgot over time. peep then incorporated search engine optimisation techniques and ideas with professional stock photography to promote their services, which included raw amber resin, salvaged artefacts and deep-sea biological specimens.
peep Presented Thought Provoking Artistic Gothic Marketing & Social Media Posts, Not Generic Canva Posts
The Newcastle based creative marketing agency wanted to submerge themselves within a sector that was synonymous with maritime history and present this artistically – within the clients social media platforms. On this particular project, peep developed social media content writing for The Brotherhood of the Northern Passage, and decided to embark on a journey into researching the characters within the trade route industry.

With peep’s experience in magazine publishing, they produced a series of print ready historical digital graphic design gothic marketing images exploring maritime mythology, real exploration history, and seafaring legends – including pieces on Captain Cook & Tattoos, the myth of the Flying Dutchman Ship, the The Northwest Passage, and piracy figures like and Mark Read / Mary Read and Captain Morgan. This was different, and not something that had been explored before within a social media context. This gothic marketing campaign wasn’t just about popular culture illustrations, but acted as a linchpin for more specific content within their industry.

The Brotherhood, wanted their customers and collectors to understand not just what they were buying, but why it matters – the history behind the trade routes, the ecology of deep amber beds, the law of maritime salvage. Peep produced short-form editorial videos built around real expertise and gothic visual language including product videos, demonstration videos and industry expert pieces of journalism to accompany their website. This was the kind of marketing campaign that peep love to get involved with.

Original Gothic Marketing & Social Media and Video Production
The Brotherhood Of The Northern Passage company previously used Social Media and Video Production companies before, but felt let down by their lack of knowledge within the maritime industry. The over use of scheduled generic and pointless posts, did not reflect the companies vision or language, which is common place within this industry.

Unfortunately, there are many ‘social media’ and ‘video production’ agencies that have suddenly become marketing gurus and profess to turn a companies language around within weeks, but often always fail to visualise any product photography or marketing ideas or real marketing concepts to back this up.

A Company With No Digital Presence Feels Relevant Again.
A company with no digital presence or real identity in a world that runs on search is invisible – regardless of how extraordinary its product. Peep built the Brotherhood’s content architecture from nothing — researching long-tail keywords in niche collector markets, writing historically authoritative blog content with pillar pages which was segmented accordingly, and building the kind of organic search presence that compounds over time rather than evaporates with a paid campaign. This marketing style builds trust with customers and develops an organic reach that has no ceiling. peep monitored competitors language within the space, including authority scores, internal errors and developed the companies online citations with various search engines. We basically re-structured the brand and the content of their product pages to reflect a contemporary market leader within this virtually unknown industry.

Only The Truly Niche Reach Out To peep
The mainstream has a thousand agencies chasing it. The Brotherhood of the Northern Passage, and companies like it, need something rarer – a creative partner who understands that extraordinary products deserve extraordinary content, and that the most powerful marketing is the kind that feels like it was never marketing at all. Some people get it, but to be honest, most don’t. Please feel free to check out other like minded companies peep work with.
