Naked Lunch Synth Musician Mick Clarke Talks To peep At Newcastle Studios

Naked Lunch Electronic Synth Music Composer Mick Clarke talks to peep magazine about his music career right here in Newcastle upon tyne and then moving to London and joining Naked Lunch after seeing an advert in Melody Maker from Tony Mayo looking for ” like minded people “.

Mick Clarke started his musical journey by enrolling into Newcastle’s Northumbria University. The University was then called a Polytechnic. He studied music technology and decided to make his Synthesizer by looking through a Practical electronics Magazine. Mick states, it didn’t actually work, so he asked a friend to help him. Mick decided to spend his entire university grant on an organ. He then describes himself as ‘messing about’ and starting to play music.

Mick decide to move to London. It was at this point he answered an advert , which was placed within the popular music magazine – ‘Melody Maker’ and eventully joined Naked Lunch

The Electronic pop band have been described as one of the first Synth and Electronic music bands to come out of the United Kingdom and praised by the likes of synth music band Depeche Mode and Soft Cell as early innovators of Electronic music.

Mick was actually working as a telephone engineer wit BT and described himself as ‘making a fortune’. He then asked for a transfer to return to Newcastle upon Tyne. It was at this point that Mick Clarke invested in some professional equipment and continued his passion for electronic music.

We cover everything from Spectro Workshops, which was an early recording studio situated within the Balck swan Arts Centre, Newcastle, Melody Maker magazine, Some Bizarre Album Hardware records Rezerection, the Shindig newcastle, The Mayfair Newcastle and Newcastle upon tyne’s very own – ‘The Tube‘
