What is the peep website and what does it do?

The peep website and the alternative peep magazine platform are the creation of Cliff Sainsbury. Cliff, is a marketing strategist based in Newcastle upon Tyne with a huge interest in technical marketing, with over twenty years of experience in the commercial world of creative brand building. Cliff Sainsbury has worked with many companies on a variety of commissions, including Professional Photography, Graphic Design, Illustration and Creative Marketing. You could say, he is a one-man-marketing-machine within the creative industry, but that’s not to get confused with a one-man-band. The Newcastle alternative agency work with a variety of freelance creatives to meet a clients brief or commission. It’s a bit like Massive Attack with Robert and Daddy G at the forefront. You get the picture.

peep Meaning.

The peep website name was the creation of Cliff Sainsbury and Scott Illingworth back in 2009. The initial idea led them both to create an independent publishing magazine called peep-magazine, which would predominately focused on the ‘Art of Voyeurism’ within a sub-culture ethos. This Newcastle based magazine, naturally progressed into alternative marketing and marketing events , in the hope of helping under-represented artists from around the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. When the peep online magazine was invented, there were no other on-line or off-line platforms using the word ‘peep’ for a creative business. Unfortunately, now, there are a mind-field of creatives trying to claim the peep website platform on various websites and social media platforms. Scott, later opted out to move into other creative projects.

The peep website motivation and what does peep stand for

The ambition to start a marketing company in Newcastle upon tyne started to developed from his own discrimination within the media industry. Cliff Sainsbury felt ignored and marginalised, irrespective of his talents or body of work. This seemed to be a reoccurring theme throughout school and Newcastle College. It wasn’t until Cliff Sainsbury enrolled into Northumbria University that his talents began to be fully realised by lecturers and course leaders within the industry ( Real People ). Cliff graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree in Media and Communication and won the Mike Figgis Award For Innovation presented by Mike Figgis. Unfortunately, prejudice and discrimination against people from working class backgrounds is still very prevalent in todays media industry. Prejudice, based on social or economic status can have a very real impact on individuals and communities. It is important for peep to work towards understanding this attitude and to address individual talent, apposed to their economic situation or background.

The peep ‘Mega Narrative’ quest for storytelling and promoting interesting individuals has led the company to extensively work with people from disadvantaged backgrounds wishing to improve themselves and gain promotional opportunities within the north east based media platform. What is the peep mission? The mission, is to promote the under-represented talent here in Newcastle upon Tyne and further afield. peep, offer a mostly free service, to market, promote and build confidence with musicians, artists and budding entrepreneurs from working class backgrounds.

What Does peep mean

Communication and collaboration has always been at the heart of the peep website platform, by creating opportunity and making sure artists are acknowledged and respected, we believe this fosters a sense of belonging for all. The Peep website, does not follow trends, ’celebrity culture‘ or search for ‘vanity likes’, but has its roots grounded in the post industrial city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Newcastle, has so much talent that, and at times, has been largely ignored or misunderstood by larger companies looking for grants to promote ‘marketable’ creatives. This massive oversight has caused detachment and mistrust from local talent, whatever the medium. peep does not seek grants to promote talent, instead, we use character driven stories and content with ‘guerrilla marketing’ techniques within free platforms to advertise our media enterprise.

In return, peep acquire strong and meaningful character driven content to inspire and celebrate creativity within marginalised groups. peep, started as an-online magazine focusing on street photography, social comment and creative culture. The platform has now developed into documentaries, events and sponsorship opportunities here in Newcastle upon Tyne. We strongly believe people identify with peep, which has been said, gives a ‘real’ sense journalism, identity and purpose.

Is peep a Registered Trademark

Having previously discussed ‘other creatives’ using the peep website name and idea, Cliff Sainsbury decided to protect the brand and register the word mark within various classes of certification. The original brand was trademarked back in 2014, but has since been updated to cover more media classes, logos and word marks.
