Byker Groove Disco Party plays The Star & Shadow Cinema Newcastle with an all star DJ Set-up. peep®

Byker Groove Disco Party returns to Newcastle’s Star and Shadow Cinema. Showcasing the very best in rare groove, Disco and Psych music. Byker Groove organiser – Giovanni Spatuzzi contacted peep in hope of promoting Byker Groove in the way of marketing, interviews and event photography.

Resident DJ’s included Mr Sayers, Jelly Jels, Garry Forster, Alex Johnson, Adamvincent Bhatti and of course Giovanni Spatuzzi. Giovanni needed event photography profiling this unique event as it happened. This was the perfect alternative marketing commission for peep

Our journey began with meeting the Dj’s down at Newcastle’s most established record store RPM Music. This was our opportunity to meet the DJ’s and ask about the history of Byker Groove and what motivated them to create their own Disco night within Newcastle upon Tyne. peep | Byker Groove | White HOT Soul | at RPM Newcastle upon Tyne

The Tanners Pub in Byker, Newcastle

Byker Groove Disco Night originally started at The Tanners pub in Newcastle. The pub is situated at the end of Byker Bridge. Organiser Giovanni explained that the Star and Shadow Cinema approached them to have the disco residency at their establishment. The Star and shadow cinema is located at the bottom of Warwick Street, Heaton, Shield Field, and seemed to be a larger venue.

DJ – mr Sayers, explained that himself and a friend invented the name – The Byker Groove, which was massively influenced by an online music forum called ‘Vinyl Vulture‘ and a club night in London called ‘Brillo‘.

Giovanni explains further, that he re-read a book called ‘Love Saves the Day‘ by Tim Laurance, which documents the very popular club nights in New York at that time such as ‘The Loft‘ ‘The Sanctuary‘ and ‘The Paradise Garage‘. DJ Giovanni explained, that those nights, and the book, were a major influences into producing Byker Groove Disco night.

The Return Of Byker Groove Disco Night.

Rare Groove night – Byker Groove Disco Party returns after three years to dominate the Disco night genre here in Newcastle upon Tyne. Giovanni Spatuzzi ( organiser) once again asked the help of peep to promote their unique event.

The Byker Groove event event was once again held at Newcastle’s Star and Shadow Cinema. The night proved to be another complete sell-out. peep decided to make an early start with the post – promotion and documented a ‘pre byker groove’, which basically involved recording the parts nobody gets a chance to see..
